On 9-10 May there was the fourth Transnational Meeting of the project NAFTES <\/a> at the IES Solutions headquarters in Catania. NAFTES <\/a> is a project that aims to improve fire-fighting training within crew compartments by using an e-learning platform and Augmented Reality applications.<\/p>\n

The Transnational Meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Transnational Meeting gathered all the NAFTES members (IES Solutions, GUnet \u2013 the network of Greek universities -, the Hellenic Navy and DANAOS, a Cypriot shipping company) for two days, in which they discussed the current status of the project and its future developments. The second day of the meeting was focussed on the preparation of the Multiplier Event of the next day.<\/p>\n

The 3rd Transnational Meeting was held in Limassol (Cyprus) last november.<\/p>\n

The Multiplier Event<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The second Multiplier Event of the project was held at the headquarters of the Sicilian Civil Protection of Nicolosi <\/strong> on 11 May, with the collaboration of DRPC Sicilia <\/strong>, an event that aims to explain the project and to inform industry experts about the potential of the NAFTES training platform.<\/p>\n

Representatives of Civil Protection have been able to fully understand the project and the functionalities of the platform, both in terms of content and applications (especially e-learning and Augmented Reality).<\/p>\n

The participants also tested firsthand the AR application of NAFTES.<\/p>\n

At the end of the event, evaluation questionnaires were handed out to all the participants who reported a strong interest in the new technologies presented and a total of positive feedbacks.<\/p>\n

Augmented reality<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

A significant component of the NAFTES training is represented by the Augmented Reality applications, used to provide a more realistic simulated experience.<\/p>\n

During the training phases, crew members will be able to visualise objects, information, animations or videos, and perform tests, directly on the Hololens lens. Hololens have been chosen as the main Augmented Reality device used in NAFTES.<\/p>\n

The NAFTES members created images and QR codes that, when read by the Hololens, trigger them to generate the AR content of the platform.<\/p>\n
