Yesterday the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly to adopt rescEU<\/a>, an initiative of the Commission to strengthen European capacities to respond to natural disasters like forest fires, floods, earthquakes and other crises. While thanking the Italian MEP Elisabetta Gardini for pushing the motion all way through, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management (DG-ECHO) Christos Stylianides welcomed a vote that makes “EU solidarity more tangible and more effective<\/em>“. Yesterday’s vote endorses the initial political agreement reached in December 2018 between the Parliament and Council. The final step is due to be adoption by the Council of the European Union in March.
