Earthquake Research. Improving earthquake research in Asia through grid technologies. The International Symposium on Grid Computing (ISGC) 2010 took place on 5-12 March at the Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan, with the aim to enhance the awareness of grid computing activities as well as foster e-Science applications in the Asia-Pacific region. On 11 March it was announced that researchers from Taiwan proposed a large-scale data network allowing the whole of the Asia-Pacific to share and analyse seismic data gathered on earthquakes. The countries in this region, lying on the so-called “Ring of Fire”, are at high risk of natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, and tsunamis, therefore the proposed initiative will be very relevant for them to mitigate such disasters. Providing access to earthquake data, through an integrated regional data centre, will help the Asia-Pacific to be better prepared when an earthquake strikes. http://news.eu-egee.com/index.php?id=193&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=142&cHash=9f59cb29eb
