A new computer algorithm developed at the University of Washington has used hundreds of thousands of tourist photos of Rome to automatically reconstruct the entire city in about a day.The tool is the most recent in a series developed at the university to harness the increasingly large digital photo collections available on photo-sharing websites. The digital Rome was built from 150,000 tourist photos tagged with the word ‘Rome’ or ‘Roma’ that were downloaded from the photo-sharing website, Flickr.Computers analysed each image and in 21 hours combined them to create a 3D digital model. With the model, a viewer can fly around Rome’s landmarks, from the Trevi Fountain to the Pantheon to the inside of the Sistine Chapel. http://grail.cs.washington.edu/rome/

Researchers use mapping technology to tackle visual impairment woes.Being able to orient yourself in places you’re unfamiliar with is not easy. So one could imagine how difficult it is for people who are either blind or visually impaired. In aumento la produzione annuale del fotovoltaico, secondo una relazione del CC.In una sua relazione, il Centro comune di ricerca (CCR) della Commissione europea riporta una crescita considerevole della produzione di energia fotovoltaica a livello mondiale, con un aumento dell’80% nel 2008 rispetto al 2007. L’UE finanzia un ambizioso progetto di ripristino Il Peak District, una zona dell’Inghilterra centrale e settentrionale, sarà sottoposto a una delle più grandi iniziative di ripristino in Europa.
