The European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR), a triennial event that has become an international reference point on risk reduction issues, will take place in Matosinhos, Portugal, from November 24 to 26.
The Forum has established itself as a key tool to address regional disaster risk challenges and allows governments and other stakeholders to exchange experiences on successful practices and innovative approaches to prevent, reduce and manage disaster risk.
Key expected outcomes include:
- Good practices and knowledge on disaster risk-informed policies, programmes and investments are shared, with a particular focus on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and the following recovery;
- Partnerships are forged for increased disaster resilience;
- The integration of disaster risk management in relevant sectors, particularly the health sector, is promoted for longer term resilience;
- Contributions to the follow-up processes of United Nations conferences and summits are made;
- Establish a common understanding of the common challenges and immediate threats in Europe;
- Agree on a joint future vision of a disaster resilient European and Central Asian region in 2030.
During the session of November 24, on “Strengthening disaster risk governance at local level: enhancing information exchanges through new technologies and assessment models“, Dr. Uberto Delprato (Managing Director of IES Solutions) will illustrate, with a video intervention followed by an interactive section, the RESILOC project.
The RESILOC project (Resilient Europe and Societies by Innovating Local Communities) aims to study and implement a comprehensive framework of studies, methods and software tools that combine physical aspects with the less tangible ones associated with human behavior.
The overall objective of RESILOC is to identify new strategies to improve the preparedness processes of local communities against any kind of risk, both planned and unplanned. The project aims to bring together the validity and experience of local communities and the strategies and commitment of national actors to achieve a tangible impact on the way resilience is understood and increased in local communities.
