I_HeERO, (Infrastructure Harmonised eCall European Deployment) is a European Project, funded by “Connect Europe Facility” (CEF) Programme, aimed at the preparation of the PSAP in Member States for the deployment of 112-based eCall as reference implementations. It addresses explicitly the PSAP element of the eCall. I_HeERO consists of studies leading to a number of pilot reference implementation in all activities. I_HeERO will develop and provide a blueprint (implementation plan) to beneficiary member state PSAP on how to upgrade their infrastructure to support eCall as a pan European concept.

To deliver the blueprint (eCall implementation and upgrade plan), the identified PSAP will be equipped with required hardware and software to enable the proper processing of the incoming eCall. The processes followed will be documented and shared, to allow other PSAPs with comparable architecture to follow a similar approach, increasing the possibility of an easy upgrade utilising I_HeERO experience to reduce risks, costs and implementation time. Of particular importance in these studies are the resulting implications for data processing in the PSAP. Therefore, the study will be supplemented by implementing prototypes of the required data changes for these vehicle types to evaluate the impact on PSAP under real conditions and the resulting implications for data integration and exchange.

In I_HeERO, IES Solutions will work on interoperability and data exchange procedures between PSAPs.

The objectives of I_HeERO are:

  • prepare the necessary PSAP infrastructure to realise Pan-European eCall
  • boost Member States investment in the PSAP infrastructure and interoperability of the service within the roadmap (by the end of 2017)
  • prepare deployment for eCall for HGV and Dangerous Goods and Long Distance Coaches
  • prepare deployment for eCall for Powered two wheeled vehicles
  • define and then perform PSAP Conformity Assessments, which is a legal obligation for all PSAP handling eCall based on 112
  • look at advancements in the management of data and next generation 112 for eCall.

The project will be operating in 11 Member States (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Slovenia) and will include 58 partners; it will last 3 years and will end on 31 December 2017. On 25 September 2015, Dr. Uberto Delprato participated to the Kick-off meeting of I_HeERO, which was held in Berlin.
